About Belinda

Belinda Terro Mooney has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Human Services program since the fall of 2018. During that time, she has taught Basic Counseling Skills as a hybrid course combining both face-to-face and online instruction, and fully online sections of Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders and Assessment Skills. During her time at Lone Star College, Belinda has distinguished herself as a passionate and committed instructor. She is fully devoted to her students, easily going above and beyond what is expected to give them her best and ensure they have the knowledge and skills needed to help in the helping professions. The content of each course is rich, detailed, and relevant as Belinda continually strives to make her classes a positive experience for those enrolled. Belinda also excels as a member of the Human Services teaching team, regularly offering her support and assistance to her fellow instructors. This is especially true when first time instructors join us, as she offers not only encouragement, but her own class notes and materials. Belinda has easily incorporated herself into the larger campus community as well, participating in the Faculty Resource Center and completing the Online Teaching Certification and the Rising Star Leadership Institute offered by our college system. All of this is evidence of the strong devotion to her calling to teach and serve her students.

I have known Belinda Terro Mooney for several years. My relationship with her is supervisor/ mentor. She is a respected instructor, and competent addiction specialist. Belinda demonstrates excellent leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent intrapersonal skills. She is a person of good moral and ethical character. Belinda always exceeds course objectives. She is a positive role model for her peers. She is open to, and actively seeks, feedback and constructive criticism from both staff and peers. She is held in high regard. She is a hard worker. She is responsible, and dependable. She is motivated and sincere.

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of one of my colleagues, Belinda Terro Mooney. I was not surprised at all when Belinda later shared with me that she was applying to obtain her Licensed Chemical Dependency licensure. Belinda is a highly motivated and persevering person. She sets her goals high and consistently meets them, especially in her personal life. Belinda has a heart for helping others. Belinda is a dedicated person, who genuinely cares about the plights of others and wants to be a part of the solution process. Belinda teaches students at Lone Star College how to be the best substance abuse counselor they can be. Because of her willingness to teach and counsel others, having her license will allow her to do that in a more clinical position in the future. After a particularly over-stimulating day, I read the poems in A Look At Life and the tension in my body just faded away. Belinda has a deep relationship with God and that relation gifted her with the words to help all of us connect with Him. The poems were calming, grounding, and inspirational. Belinda is a talented author and an engaging speaker. She has written other books and educational material and I know there are more articles, books, etc. to come. Belinda has been my friend for over 30 years. She has always been supportive and encouraging to me even at her own low points in life. I couldn't ask for a better friend. There have been gaps of time without communication in our friendship, due to life circumstances, but when we reconnect it's like no time has passed. Belinda, herself, is an inspiration.

My testament of Belinda, a humble and Godly woman whom I call friend. She is always kind and honest. I know she will tell me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear. Her friendship is from a place of love. I am blessed by her in my life.

A decades long friend, Belinda Terro Mooney is a trusted and conscientious person whom I have watched pay close and dedicated attention to the projects and people with whom she is involved. Her preparation for the work at hand, be it books, coaching or courses, is unparalleled and impressive. She is a capable and caring friend and professional.

It has been a privilege to call Belinda Mooney my friend for almost thirty years! In traversing life's unexpected twists and turns, I have had a front row seat to experience her trust and faithfulness, her determination and fortitude, her long suffering and heroic love! She has been a rock! She has been and continues to be a place of safety for me when I need encouragement and support. There have been numerous times when I have been in awe as she has courageously moved forward in traumatic circumstances in her life. Through her unique life journey, she has helped me to never give up and to always be grateful to God. Belinda listens with her heart and spirit and brings forth truth and wisdom! She is a gift!

I have known Belinda for many years and during all that time she has always focused on finding God's will in every situation. The teachings of the Church are her anchor and her guiding light giving stability and illumination to her judgments. She is truly a spiritual mother to everyone she encounters.

Belinda Terro Mooney, mother & grandmother, writer of educational workbooks and faith-based materials, teacher, college professor serving to two different universities in adjunct positions with focus on substance abuse and addictive disorders, public speaker, training/coaching consultant with human resource and social worker certifications, has just completed her latest book. It is a bit of a switch for her as it’s a beautiful book of poetry that totally depicts her persona. She lives her life in a secular world while following the gifts of the Holy Spirit. She has great wisdom from raising and homeschooling all seven of her children, the last two as a single mother and widow, showing tremendous fortitude. Drawing on her education, she has applied her experiences to a great understanding of life. Given her years of counseling that she now applies to her writing and coaching business, she offers an uncanny degree of counsel and piety in all her work. Her deep faith drives all her gifts as she displays complete trust of God in all she undertakes. I met Belinda at a very difficult time in her life yet learned so much from her during this period. She is a joy to know, an optimist who looks forward and is the consummate teacher. Her deep trust in the Lord and her extensive education served as a driving force to keep going during the tough times when she could easily have succumbed to despair. Instead, she “picked herself up by her bootstraps”, as they say in Texas, and began setting an example for her children and those she teaches. Her book of poetry is a natural evolution in her writing as she moved from educational workbooks and faith-based encounters to her latest book, “A Look at Life”, a collection of poetry that flows naturally from her being. Belinda is also pragmatic. Her students and her friends are always learning from her practical display of knowledge and faith in action. She is the epitome of the phrase, “With God, everything is possible” and she lives her faith in all she does.

Belinda is a Spirit filled, God loving, saint loving person who diligently works to bring Christ to all she meets. She loves her friends and gives her all in her relationships. She has been given the gift of being wonderful with words, and those words come from her heart and prayer. Her joy for the Lord is ever present even in the midst of great sorrow. Belinda is always ready to listen and goes above and beyond what is necessary to help in any way she can. She inspires others to be the best person they can be and is a generous advocate and champion for those in crisis. Through her devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, she is a prayer warrior for the reparation of sin and the salvation of souls. I am fortunate to call her my friend and sister in Christ.

I have known Belinda for quite some time through the Order of Discalced Carmeltie Seculars. Belinda is a thoughtful, kind, and wise friend. She is able to communicate effectively with all sorts of people, and makes them feel heard and understood. Belinda has written several Catholic textbooks for children and teens, and she will soon be publishing a new book on praying with the saints, Pray with Us. In addition, she writes children's religious poetry. Belinda is a licensed social worker and chemical dependency counselor who has taught human services and social work, as well as developed curriculum for her college courses. I have used her book, My Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes Workbook: Creating a Comprehensive Plan for a Calm, Ordered Life, to help create goals and plans for myself. Belinda truly desires to help people, and uses her talents and extensive knowledge base to do so.

Belinda is a wealth of information and resources that she is inspired to share with others. She has a gift of presenting a vast amount of information, and presented in a way that comes alive for the reader or student. Her real life experiences, and years of teaching bless all those she encounters. I have been blessed to pray for this humble woman as she asks for prayers every time she begins a new writing project. She is a Treasure.

I have known Belinda Mooney and her children for almost 6 years now. Belinda is a resilient woman, able to care for her children while facing personal and professional adversity. She is determined in reaching her goals because of her faithfulness and devotion to Christ and community. Even with her strength and steadfastness, speaking to her would be a sweet and tender experience. Belinda is a virtuous woman and I’m glad to keep her in friendship.

Great leaders live from a place of love and service. These are only two of Belinda’s most positive traits.
